Improving Shooting Ability

Check out this conversation I had with a player today on improving shooting ability…

Player: “How do I become a better shooter?”

Me: “Get an effective shooting workout that suits your strengths and weaknesses and then get in the gym consistently and make a lot of shots”

Player: “Will a few shooting workouts really help?”

Me: NO

Here’s the issue…

Most player don’t understand that consistently getting in the gym for shooting practice can quickly add up to massive improvements…

Let’s do the math…

100 shots x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year = 26,000 shots per year.

200 shots x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year = 52,000 shots per year.

300 shots x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year = 78,000 shots per year.

400 shots x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year = 104,000 shots per year.

500 shots x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year = 130,000 shots per year.

That’s a lot of shots!

“So, what does this mean for coaches?”

We must educate players about the importance of consistent shooting practice and show them how quickly the numbers add up.

You’re doing even better than most coaches if you’re able to provide your players with workouts they can use. Most players aren’t sure what to do in the gym and will simply go and mess around — and we definitely don’t want them doing that.
